>> hello and welcome to fox 5 news at 6. i'm will thomas. >> and i'm maureen umay. park police began enforcing the no cam r camping rule today in downtown d.c. it's been a virtual campground for the past several months because of the occupy movement. fox 5 has been monitoring the situation since dawn and john hannahan joins us live on the scene with the latest. >> reporter: let's get the video off me and show you what's going on right now. at the moment, u.s. park police, a large helmeted contingent of them, have pushed all of the protesters out of mark fear son square.

the protesters to to the right side of your screen standing in the middle of k. street. several blocks in all directions are completely shut down this operation began more than 12 hours ago. park police arrived in force in the predawn hours. some on horseback, some in full riot gear, including hard helmets and hand held shields. a helicopter hovered above. the first priority for police, a blue tarp draped by protesters over the lower part of the statue of civil war general james mcpherson. two demonstrators sat atop the tarp but after negotiations, the plastic came down. pedestrian barriers were erected throughout the park and people were removed from each section, so that park police could inspect tents. those with camping material in them were removed. so were blankets, pillows, and personal belongings. at first, disposal bags were
6:02 pm
labeled and police 15eud the owners could retrieve their property. later maintenance workers simply threw the belongings in the back of trash trucks. a police spokesman said there were health issues with some of the belongings. the demonstrators appeared dismayed by the crack down. >> if they don't want to us sleep or camp, that's fine. i'll be right here every day, not sleeping, until they do something about it. [ crowd chanting ] >> reporter: as police worked their way through mcpherson square, there was oce from some protesters. [ woman screaming ] [ crowd fighting ] >> why are you here? >> come on! >> reporter: in general, the resistance to the park police was short-lived. as the day wore on, parts of mcpherson square again began to look more like a park than a campground. >> mixed feelings, because i agree with these people on many aspects. but i miss the park.
6:03 pm
the clean park. >> are you glad to get the park back? >> yeah, yeah. >> reporter: as of late this afternoon, u.s. is park police reported seven arrests here, four of them for failure to obey a lawful order. and three more arrests for crossing a police line. i am told by a bystander who has been watching this that another arrest took place right where you're looking right now in the last 15 minutes. the police apparently waded right into k street and plucked a guy from the crowd and took him away. we don't know what the probable cause for that arrest is. the protesters are out of mcpherson square right now. however, apparently it's the intention of the park police to let them back at some point, because a good proportion of the tents are staying. i would say the majority are going. i think the majority fail the park police test and they're finding camping gear, sleeping bags and pillows in them. those tents are going away. that's the latest. this is an ongoing changing situation.
6:04 pm

6:05 pm

president's old ride. >> reporter: long before president obama was riding in the presidential limo, he was driving this chrysler 300. a vehicle perfect for -- >> somebody that -- that is very -- you know, obama, somebody that just wants to be near where obama was, or to have a piece of history. >> reporter: lisa sevore is the listing agent, if you will, for the recent attempt to sell barack obama's old car on ebay. the car is owned by tim owe boil, general manage -- o'boyle, general manager of this chicago area restaurant who declined our request for an interview. the auction ended wednesday night with no bids, probably because of the million dollar starting bounty. >> the market value of this car is roughly about $12,600. so a long way from 1 million. >> reporter: but the ebay listing made the car famous. google obama car ebay, over 14 million hits, lots of attention

[ laughing ] >> probably relist it closer to the election. and we might lower the price, or we might keep it the same. >> reporter: meantime, if there's an obama fan out there with a serious officer, they're ich -- serious offer, they're listening. steve brown, fox news. >> all right. >> does it have snow tires? >> yeah. >> $12,000 car, opening bid a million. wow. >> they might have a tough time
6:16 pm
with that. >> they'll be lucky to get the 12,000. >> it might go for a little more. >> looked like a gas guzzler to me. gas is expensive. but a good looking cars. snow tires not a bad idea, but you said earlier might be a dusting? >> and if we even get that in the city. mainly to the north and northwest of us is where we're really looking. so we might just dodge the bullet here. we just might. look outside. >> we keep dodging them. >> meteorologist sue palco gave me a call and said she is on 270 and there are flakes coming down but she said they're melting, so just making the roads wet. here is a look outside. and some of you won't see anything at all. some of you seeing light rain, maybe a sleet mix. we are talking about this system bringing a wintery mix. and into the course of the overnight hours. accumulations mainly to the northwest, and northwest of the d.c. metro area is what we're talking about. there are sunny days ahead in my five-day forecast and also temperatures are not going to be too far from seasonal,
6:17 pm
either. so let's begin with a look here and we'll show you exactly what is going on. and where things are. our highs today are a big factor temperature wise, because temperatures are -- are warm at the surface, and so, that's what's going to help us a lot in terms of the snow situation. 46 today at national, 44 dulles, 44 at b.w.i. these temperatures anywhere from right on the mark to just two degrees or so warmer than they should be. we're not dealing with a whole lot in terms of the temperatures being a factor. right now at gaithersburg, 36 at dulles. 32 at frederick, 40 at d.c. and 35 degrees right now, at baltimore. so, as we look at all the moisture, there's a whole steam coming from the south, you have the system coming from the west, the combination of a couple things going on here that will really affect us. and right now, you can see we have a lot of rain, here are areas of the east and south. then we have this mix and a snow line here. a closer look at that, let's go to radar and we'll give you a little closer look.
6:18 pm
you can see where we've got this mix going on right now. we expect to see that moving into the d.c. metro region as we head to overnight hours. to our west, allegheny county as i mentioned had already gotten an inch and a half. expecting areas into the northwest and the west and the north to get at least maybe an inch on untreated surfaces, grassy surfaces. bridges and overpasses, as well. could be a little slick because we could see sleet mixed in with that and we anticipate some of this into the early morning hours as well. back to the weather map. we aren't talking a lot of accumulation. can we go back to max, please. as we see this happening in the overnight hours, it could make things a little slick for you. the system will push through, so late tonight in the overnight hours is when we'll see this happening and into the morning hours it will linger. by the afternoon we'll have partly sunny skies, could see a passing shower just on the back side of this. can't rule it out, however, just a taste of winter is what we'll be getting. it is that time of year.
6:19 pm
so, precipitation starting as rain mainly, becoming a rain/snow mix mainly overnight. a light accumulation. west and north and northwest of d.c. and it should end sunday by midday. here is a look at your five-day forecast for you. we will have some sunshine once we get through all of this in the beginning of the week. wednesday, however, looks like a day with another system that could bring us a little more wintery mix. we'll have to watch it. >> thanks, gwen a lot of people are gearing up for the super bowl tomorrow. doctors are warning fans not to stress out about the big game. they say the emotional stress fans feel after a loss can actually trigger a fatal heart attack. >> remember it's a game. right? and even the players at some point have to accept that what's going to unfold in front of them will unfold in front of them, and treat it like a business. although they get invested in it, they know that there will be a new game and a new season next year. the more you treat this as the pinnacle or the be all end all, the more you'll be cognitively or mindfully invested in it and
6:20 pm
the more likely you are to get stressed if the outcome isn't going your way. >> according to a study done in 1980, after the pittsburgh steelers staged a 4th quarter super bowl come back to beat the rams, heart-related deaths shot up 15% among men, and 27% among women two weeks after. >> even if you don't know who tim tebow is, well, you must be living under a rock. >> indeed. the broncos quarterback has developed a cult-like following and his tebowing pose. >> she's not living under a rock. >> has sparked a national craze with fans of all shapes and sizes. >> bruce schneider introduces us to one of the tiniest tebow fans, tiny, who is not even born yet. >> welcome to the home of jennifer and chris, parents to football fans. [ music ] >> so when their little bundle of joy is born, due on the 11th, in the delivery room will be a bag of dirt, just like this one, a very special bag.
6:21 pm
from florida field, a/k/a, the swamp. >> just to say that we did it. it was old stadium dirt. yeah. just part of the inspiration. >> i think tebow kicked it up when we beat south carolina. >> reporter: yes, tim tebow will be a part of the experience, actually to the bombardiers, he already is. maybe not literally, but look at the ultrasound picture. look familiar? >> this child of ours is tebowing into this -- just doing this. the former florida and current denver quarterback is known for inspiring his fans but this time the devotion starts before birth. >> some of your friends and family said when you've told them about this? >> they think we're a little looney, the ones that know. they think we should be focused on bigger things but we're just having fun with it. >> hopefully just light 10 mood a little bit. >> reporter: what better way to
6:22 pm
help the mood than music. the bombardiers's plan on playing gator themed songs through the entire process, the hospital said it's ok, but what do they think tebow would say? >> he can perform the baptism if he likes. i mean we don't have anybody yet. >> reporter: tim tebow might not be the greatest quarterback, but to the bombardiers is, he is certainly the most influential. bruce schneider, fox news. >> that is cute. i wish they'd show the sonogram again. >> yeah. but what are they going to do with the dirt? hopefully keep it in the bag. >> let's hope. they didn't quite say. congrats to them nonetheless. on the sports theme, a big thing on the college hardwood for local basketball teams and the great 8 returns to the capitals after serving his suspension. >> did he make an impact against montreal? lindsay murphy is here with sports, next. to make me happy. i like being the guy who makes things happen... makes things work.
